The Women Beside Me

As local season approaches, I've found myself reflecting on the women who have shaped this journey.
When most people think about pageantry, they think about competition. They think about titles, crowns, and outcomes.
But the longer I've been involved, the more I've realized that the most meaningful part of this experience has never been what happens on stage.
It's the people.
It's the young girl who reminds me why mentorship matters every time she finds the confidence to raise her hand, speak up, or believe in herself a little more than she did the day before.
It's the friend who has faced challenges with grace and resilience, teaching me that strength isn't always loud.
It's the woman who celebrates others so effortlessly that she reminds everyone around her there is enough room for all of us to succeed.
It's the mentor who answers the phone, offers advice, and encourages me to keep going when I am uncertain of the next step.
And it's the countless women who have crossed my path for only a moment, yet left a lasting impact.
For a long time, I thought leadership meant being the one with the answers.
Now, I think leadership looks a lot more like listening.
It looks like learning from the people around you.
It looks like recognizing that every woman carries experiences, strengths, and perspectives that can teach us something if we're willing to pay attention.
Through mentorship, I've learned patience.
Through friendship, I've learned loyalty.
Through service, I've learned gratitude.
And through pageantry, I've learned that some of life's greatest lessons come from the women standing beside you, not across from you.
As I prepare for another local season, my focus isn't on an outcome. It's on continuing to grow into the kind of woman who can serve others well, lead with purpose, and leave people better than I found them.
Because while a title may last for a year, the impact we have on one another lasts far longer.
And if this journey has taught me anything, it's that I am still learning.
Still growing.
Still becoming.
And I have the incredible women around me to thank for so much of that journey.
