The Doors I Didn't Expect

A few months ago, I was fortunate enough to hear my name called and begin serving as Miss Miami.

Like many people, I used to think that reaching a goal would bring a sense of certainty. That once you achieved something you had worked toward, everything else would somehow fall perfectly into place.

What I've learned instead is that life doesn't stop when a dream comes true.

In many ways, it keeps surprising you.

Since becoming Miss Miami, I've experienced unexpected opportunities that I never could have planned for. New conversations, new friendships, new partnerships, and new chances to serve the communities and causes that mean so much to me.

Doors have opened that I didn't even know existed.

At the same time, there have been doors that remained closed.

Plans that changed.

Opportunities that didn't work out.

Moments that left me disappointed.

Conversations that didn't go the way I hoped they would.

For a while, I found myself asking why.

Why didn't that opportunity work out?

Why did that plan change?

Why wasn't that door meant for me?

But recently, I've been learning a different lesson.

Sometimes the answer is simply: let them.

If people choose a different direction, let them.

If an opportunity passes you by, let it.

If someone doesn't see your value, let them.

Not because those moments don't hurt, and not because they don't matter, but because peace comes when we stop trying to force things that were never ours to control.

The truth is, not every closed door is a failure.

Sometimes it is protection.

Sometimes it is preparation.

And sometimes it is redirection toward something we never would have found otherwise.

One of the hardest lessons I've learned this year is that growth isn't just about celebrating the opportunities that arrive. It's about trusting the process when things don't unfold the way you imagined.

It's easy to have faith when everything is going according to plan.

It's much harder when you're standing in the middle of uncertainty.

But often, when I look back, the moments I once viewed as setbacks were actually preparing me for something greater. They taught me patience. They taught me resilience. They taught me that I don't need to control every outcome in order to trust the journey.

Most importantly, they reminded me that my purpose is bigger than any single opportunity.

A title can open doors, but it cannot determine your impact.

That comes from how you show up each day.

How you serve others.

How you respond when things don't go your way.

How you continue moving forward even when the path changes.

As I reflect on these past few months, I find myself grateful not only for the doors that opened, but for some of the ones that didn't.

Because both have shaped this journey.

Both have taught me something.

And both have reminded me that life often unfolds differently than we expect.

The older I get, the more I realize that not every door is meant to be forced open.

Some are meant to be walked through.

Some are meant to remain closed.

And sometimes the greatest act of faith is trusting that what is meant for you will find you, while having the courage to let go of what isn't.

So for now, I'm learning to walk through the doors that open, learn from the ones that don't, and trust that every step, expected or not... is leading exactly where I'm meant to be.
